After 88 years of a wonderful life, Elizabeth “Betty” Goldie died at home, surrounded by her family in peace and comfort, in the early hours of September 16, 2023. She will be remembered with love by her three children, Gerry (Yasmin), Steve, and Lori (John), her grandchildren Caitlin (Adrian), Chelsea (Nick), Spencer, Brenna (Nate), Ryan, Connor, and Rileigh, her great-grandchildren (and great delights) Evie, Max, Naomi, and Ezra, as well as her siblings Margaret and Archie, her best pals, Marylin and Ella, and many other friends, nieces, nephews, and family. She is now reunited with the love of her life, James Goldie, her beloved parents Peter and Agnes, her beloved siblings Cathy, Nancy, and Pete, and her much-missed grandsons, James and Jordan.

Betty was a lot of personality in a wee package. Like all Goldies, you never had to guess how she was feeling. She was quick with a laugh, a joke, or a good story, and had a mischievous spirit and twinkle in her eye that was never diminished, despite many years of illness in her later years. She was a beautiful singer and loved to dance, but her greatest joy was spending time with her loved ones. She took care of everyone she loved with such devotion and steadfastness. Betty was the first-born of 6 children, and she knew how to bring everyone together with yearly Neely Family Picnics and Christmas parties. She was an incredible cook and kept everyone she loved very well-fed, especially with her legendary macaroni and cheese and potato salad.

She worked many jobs both in Scotland and Canada over the years, but was delighted to retire early when the grandbabies arrived, and loved to spend her time doting on them. She also loved to dote on and care for James, cooking whatever his heart desired and traveling to Portugal, Scotland, California, and anywhere with a golf course. Betty knew how to soak up the absolute beauty in ordinary life - the delight of a good cuppa and a biscuit, the company of loved ones, a good song. She will be remembered fondly for her laugh, her big personality, her zest for enjoying the good things in life, and all the love and care she gave to us. It was her wish not to have a funeral service, so we will be holding a celebration of life in the new year, details to be determined.
